Using Memsource

Using Memsource
We continued our interview with two of our project managers about the benefits of using Memsource for translation work.
We interviewed two of our project managers about the advantages of using Memsource for translation work.

Cooperation with Memsource
Author: I think there are many advantages to the integration of machine translation and Memsource for translation work.
Please tell us how you are actually using Memsource.
PM (A): For example, the English-Japanese translation project for a sports association's periodical report that I introduced in the previous interview,
PM (A): For example, the English-Japanese translation of a sports association's periodical report, which I introduced in the last interview, was a large project with 100 A4 size pages. Of course, we had to meet the deadline,
We assigned five post editors to the project.
Author: It is a case where multiple people work on a single project.
PM (A): That's right. We had to assign work to each of the post editors and also make sure that the terminology and style were consistent.
Memsource played a major role in this respect. The ability to share information in the cloud is also convenient,
It was also good to be able to share information in real time, for example, when we updated terms.
PM (B): Not only for the above project, but also for other projects, Memsource has been helpful in terms of unifying terminology and real-time progress management.
Utilization of Analysis Functions
Author: Then, please tell us what you are trying to do in utilizing Memsource.
PM (A): We can see the percentage of terminology and sentences that are consistent with the projects that we have previously translated using Memsource.
The match rate is then used to determine which translators can be used for which projects. The PM (A): The PM (A) is able to see the match rate of terms and sentences in the translation of the same or similar projects that have been previously translated using Memsource,
We also devise efficient work processes, including which translators to assign and the schedule for the translation and post-editing work.
PM (B): Knowing the repetitive wording and match rate helps us calculate man-hours and determine delivery dates before receiving orders.
It is no exaggeration to say that 90% of our translation projects now utilize Memsource.
Author:90%! This is a number that shows at a glance that it has been of great help. On the contrary, I am curious about the situation when we were not using Memsource and other translation support tools.
I am curious about the situation when we were not using Memsource and other translation support tools.
PM (A): Before the introduction of the translation support tool, we were using Word and Excel, which often caused problems when different versions were used by different translators.
Memsource allows us to work in the same format and work in a unified manner, which is very convenient.
PM (B): To be honest, we had to rely on the translator's memory for ongoing projects from the past.
Also, if there were past translation assets saved in Word or Excel, we had to compare them one by one to translate.
While that took a lot of time, the volume of accepted translation projects has increased since the introduction of Memsource.
PM (A): Actually, some of our translators were resistant to using the tool at first because they were used to the old-fashioned, so to speak, analog method of translation.
However, they actually asked us to work on Memsource. However, when we actually asked them to work on Memsource, they were very satisfied with the results, especially when it came to translating words and phrases that appeared repeatedly in the text.
words and phrases that appear repeatedly in the text, they said, "How convenient! I thought.
Why Memsource instead of other companies' TMS?
Author: The secret to long use of Memsource may be that the translators themselves feel the benefits of using it.
By the way, you used other translation support tools for a period of time before adopting Memsource, didn't you?
Why didn't those tools take root in your company?
PM (B): Other translation support tools at the time could not be used in the cloud, so they were not as convenient as they could be.
Also, there were many cases where external translators did not have the necessary environment to use the tool, or the tool was too technically challenging for them to use.
I think this was another reason for the lack of penetration.
PM (A): Memsource is also well-established because translators, including outside translators, do not need to purchase the tools on their own, and can use them immediately after we give them an account.
The user interface is easy to understand, and the service is easy to use. The user interface is easy to understand and intuitive,
I think the user interface is easy to understand and intuitive to use, which is also a big reason why Memsource has become so popular.
Author:After all, it is something we use every day, so it helps that it is easy to understand and operate.
From what you have said so far, I have the impression that the introduction of Memsource has considerably improved work efficiency.
PM (A): Yes, I feel that the overall efficiency of our translation work has increased by about 30% by using Memsource.
PM (B): Before the introduction of Memsource, when a project was large in volume or required translation into multiple languages, we had to manually create the source text data for each translator and submit the request.
We then manually merged the translations returned by multiple translators into a single file before delivery.
Memsource has been really helpful in that we don't have to split and merge manually.
TM Management and Security
Author:A 30% improvement in work efficiency is significant. Then, is there anything you are careful about or pay attention to when using Memsource?
PM (B): We are careful to organize the TMs (translation memories). It is important to divide the TMs into genres, as different fields of the same terminology can be translated in different ways.
It is not unusual for the same term to be translated differently in different fields, so I try to organize it by field. I feel that by doing so, I can utilize the information more efficiently.
I feel that by doing so, the use of the information becomes more efficient.
PM (A): Another point we pay attention to is information leakage prevention. Since we are managing in the cloud, we regularly change the login information.
We are very careful to prevent leakage of translation assets.
Future Prospects
Author: I heard that Memsource offers a number of machine translation engines. Finally, we have our own NMT engine that we have developed.
Author: I heard that you can use a number of machine translation engines with Memsource.
PM (B): We are also the developer of the translation engine, so being able to use our own machine translation engine within Memsource
This is a big advantage. In the future, we plan to improve the accuracy of machine translation itself by having NMT learn the results of past projects and
We aim to improve the accuracy of machine translation itself and reduce the man-hours required for post-editing by having NMT learn the results of past projects.
Author: I am looking forward to the future when we can develop our own NMT. Through this interview, I have discovered Memsource's
Through this interview, I discovered various attractions of Memsource. We will continue to combine Memsource with our own NMT to provide the best translation results to meet our clients' needs.
We will continue to make the best use of Memsource in combination with our own NMT to provide our clients with the best translation results to meet their needs.
Kodensha Corporation
A software development company founded in 1979.
Its main business is the development of language-related software, such as translation and multilingual input, and its Chinese input software "ChineseWriter 11" has been used by government offices and universities.
ChineseWriter 11" is still supported by many customers, especially government offices and universities.
Since the release of machine translation software in the late 1980s, we have developed an AI-based translation engine using neural networks.
We have developed an AI-based translation engine and are pursuing synergy between our large in-house bilingual corpus and human translation.
