English on Environmental Issues Part 1

At a time when environmental problems are becoming more serious worldwide, a Swedish teenage female activist is known to have made a speech at the United Nations. The first time it seemed to be taken up was at the Stockholm Conference, which was held in 1972, triggered by the country's call for action.

At the time, Sweden was suffering from acid rain and other pollution caused by soot from coal-fired power plants in distant Western European countries.

Sweden had started to notice damages from pollutants such as acid rain, caused by soot and smoke emitted from coal fired power plants in far-away Western European countries.

At the time, similar problems were also emerging in other industrialized countries.

At the time, similar problems were also causing serious social issues in other developed countries.

It is troubling that the environment is polluted not by pollution emitted by our own country, but by pollution from other countries.

Let's review some words related to the environment here.
