This is the 20th installment of our series on English expressions related to taxes.

 

In the previous delivery

 

Switch OTC medicines" is translated as "non-prescription OTC medicines.

 

In the last issue, we introduced an example where "switch OTC medicines" is translated as "non-prescription OTC medicines".

 

This time, we would like to cite and compare the results of our research on what other translations exist.

 

On the website of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW),

 

Switch OTC drugs" is translated as " switch OTC drugs

 

and "switch OTC drugs" is translated as "switch OTC drugs" on the MHLW's website,

 

I want to say, "Isn't that exactly what it means?

 

I feel like giving a "tsk tsk" to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

 

From the perspective of familiarity and ease of understanding, it is obvious that

 

Non-prescription OTC medicines

 

is the more convenient translation.
