Post-editing machine translation results Part 1

As a company involved in both the development of machine translation and human translation, we compare the accuracy and speed of various engines, not only our own translation engines, and adopt the best ones in practice.

We have recently developed a "post-edit" system that machine translates items of clothing and other items from a major apparel manufacturer into Chinese and then corrects the results by human hands.

I was able to take on the task of "post-editing," and after examining several machine translations, I found some words that had been mistranslated.

I translated the word using three different machine translations,

shelter cabinet pants.

" leather pants"

were all mistranslated as " shelter pants", " shelter shorts", and " leather pants".

shelter pants" and " shelter shorts" were mistranslated by comparing them to the familiar "cargo" of air cargo, while " leather pants" was mistranslated as "leather pants.

For a company like ours that is in the business of post-editing, it is important not to "overlook" such mistranslations, but to be aware of them.
