Introduction of Asia Pacific Association for Machine Translation | |
Established on April 17, 1991 as the "Japan Association for Machine Translation" and renamed on June 17, 1992 as the "Asia-Pacific Association for Machine Translation" to expand its business. The purpose of the association is to promote the sound development of machine translation systems and their appropriate diffusion in society, and to contribute to the advancement of this field worldwide through the exchange of information among R&D, manufacturers and users of machine translation systems. |

Introduction of AAMT Nagao Award and Dr. Makoto Nagao | |
The AAMT Nagao Prize was established by its first president, Dr. Makoto Nagao, as a recognition of his efforts to promote the development of machine translation systems, a field that is as prestigious as the Nobel Prize. Dr. Nagao donated a portion of his prize money to AAMT.
Dr. Nagao is an authority on machine translation and a world leader in natural language processing, image processing, and pattern processing. He served as President of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) and the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ) from 1997 to 2003, and is currently the Director of the National Diet Library. |
